If you don’t go after what you want, you’ll never have it. If you don’t ask, the answer is always no. If you don’t step forward, you’re always in the same place. Meet Sarah Roddy, a passionate, inspirational, hard working GetintheLoop Local Owner in Windsor-Essex who joined GetintheLoop in May 2019. Over the past 16 years she has loved the warmer climate, diverse culture, the community and the variety of unique places to eat out in Windsor and in the last year of being a franchise owner she’s been able to enjoy all those things even more. Sarah is proof that when you stay true to your beliefs, focus on your goals and the “why”, you can achieve anything you set your mind to.

Q: What’s a day/week in your shoes look like?
A: Every day varies but I usually start it with some self-care - either yoga or training at the gym! After that, I'm on the phone/computer prospecting or I'm out meeting prospects in person. I love to network so you'll find me doing that in the evenings. During the weekends, I'm usually out at an event promoting GetintheLoop to local residents.

Q: What does the word community mean to you?
A: For me, the word community means Collaboration! Finding ways to work together and benefiting each other.

Q: What are some ways that you support your community?
A: In my spare time, I run the Windsor Chapter of Canada Learning Code. I help those misrepresented in the tech sector gain the fundamental skills needed for the jobs of the future. I like to show them how tech can be used as a tool for change. Specifically how GetintheLoop is helping communities all across Canada by giving local businesses a stronger online voice.

Q: Do you have any advice for someone wanting to get involved more with the community?
A: Figure out first what your 'why' is - what cause or belief you care most about then reach out to others who have the same beliefs. If you're not sure how to find these people, try networking and share your beliefs with others; chances are they know someone who has the same beliefs and can connect you with them!

Q: What have you accomplished in the past that you thought was impossible at the time?
A: Completing a Computer Science degree and making the honour roll! I knew I could pass the courses but I never thought I'd be an A student.

Q: What have you always dreamed about doing, but too afraid to try?
A: Running a business! I was always afraid to start one because I didn't have an idea that I felt would work. That has obviously changed since I started GetintheLoop!

Q: What’s your favourite part about being your own boss?
A: The flexible schedule!

Q: How do you define success?
A: When I hear people say "I see you everywhere!" or "I've heard of GetintheLoop!" I know the word is spreading and my hard work is paying off.

Q: Have a local business you would like to give a shout out to?
A: There are lots of great local businesses (including all my awesome partners!) but one that stands out is the Capaz Cafe located in the Downtown Accelerator. They are a coffee shop run by individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
